Walks
In and Around Dumfries

There are a number of good walks to take in and around Dumfries. If you take the Dalbeattie Road out as far as Mabie Forest, there are marked forest walks, and ditto at Ae Forest, on the road to Moffat. Closer to home, one of my favourite walks is along the river bank from Nunholm. To get there, head along Edinburgh Road from the town centre towards Heathhall and Locharbriggs. Just after the Gracefield Art Gallery, the road turns sharply right, but at the same point, you can take a fork left. Take the left hand fork and follow it until you reach the end of the road. If you are driving, you can park at this point. Follow the path which sets of underneath the by pass, and follow it along the river bank. This loops right round till you come to a row of houses on your left hand side. There is an alley which takes you back up to Nunholm Road. Turn left and you will be back at your car. Infact, most of the walks in Dumfries centre around the river. Another nice one is from the Dock Park down to The Swan at Kingholm Quay for a bite to eat, and there are other marked walks along the river.
